The Helvidius Group - Journal of Politics & Society
Columbia University's Journal of Politics & Society

Online Content

As the publishing world increasingly moves toward electronic media, the many costs of conventional printing become harder to justify. Given environmental concerns, space limitations, and finite budgets, printing is no longer the ideal means of creating an active forum. Nevertheless, a professionally bound journal retains its intellectual heft, with a limited print run of the very best in undergraduate scholarship contributing to the academic canon. The publication is painstakingly edited to fit a format that is at once consumable and keepsake, and the essays in the print edition of the Journal are all the more special for it.

Accordingly, the Helvidius Group hopes to expand its offerings on the Web with content that for whatever reason does not fit into the print Journal. Book reviews, opinion articles, and collaborative discussions may be better suited to the online medium than the print Journal. Ultimately, all writings here are edited to the same standards as the print edition, but they may be longer or take advantage of other media. Additionally, the print edition will be made available online each year several months after going on-sale in bookstores and being distributed to subscribers.

The online content section of the website will be continually under construction. For now, you can read through the current issue, printed in Spring 2009, and the archives since 1991, made possible by the Columbiana Archives.
