Archive

The archive on this page represent most of the 23-year history of the Journal, from its inaugural issue printed on a photocopier to the nationally distributed and internationally recognized publication of today. The Journal has evolved substantially over time, growing from a magazine format to that of a scholarly research journal. Along the way, its name has changed from the Columbia Undergraduate Journal of Law and Public Policy to Helvidius: the Journal of Politics & Society to its present form, the Journal of Politics & Society. To distinguish the Journal from the Sage Publications periodical, Politics & Society, the Journal is sometimes referred to as Columbia University’s or the Columbia University Journal of Politics & Society, though this is not part of its official ISSN record.

Below are the PDF documents for each of the articles featured since 1991. Some editions may be missing the introductory table of contents or cover images. Also, the essays reproduced here are in their original published form. The Helvidius Group disclaims responsibility for errors in its earlier editions, which reflect the tremendous strides the Helvidius Group has taken during its history.

All republication rights, in full or in part, are reserved, except where allowed by fair use. Outside websites are welcome to link to the files directly; however, content may not be copied or hosted on other servers without express permission from the Helvidius Group. For rights and permissions inquiries, please contact Helvidius.

Note: Utilizing the optical character recognition (OCR) process, the articles below exist as searchable PDF files. However, because of errors in that process and because of the quality of the digital scans in general, some pages have been misinterpreted. If you wish to cite or reproduce a misinterpreted page, the Helvidius Group will be happy to assist you.
